Niger Governor  Abubakar Sani- Bello has directed that salaries and allowances of all Political Appointees in the state be slashed by 30 per cent.

The slash in salaries and allowances, which will include the Governor, his Deputy, Commissioners, Special Advisers and all other political appointees, is to start with immediate effect.

This was contained in a statement issued by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane.

The statement said that the reduction is temporary and is due to the impact of the COVID-19 on the economy and finances of the state.

“The reduction which is temporary was also in consideration of the economic situation imposed on the State by the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The State Government would transparently resume full payment of salaries and allowances when the economic situation improves.”
